DIRFloortime

The DIR/Floortime® model is a developmental, relationship-based intervention approach designed to support social-emotional, communicative, and cognitive growth in children with developmental differences. Grounded in the principles of Developmental capacities, Individual differences, and Relationships (DIR), the model emphasizes understanding each child’s unique sensory processing, emotional regulation, and learning profile while fostering meaningful, affective interactions. Through guided play and purposeful engagement, caregivers and professionals follow the child’s lead to promote shared attention, two-way communication, problem-solving, and higher-level thinking. DIR Floortime® prioritizes emotional connection and intrinsic motivation as the foundation for learning, supporting the development of flexible thinking, self-regulation, and functional communication across home, school, and therapeutic environments.  The DIR Floortime® model is recommended for infancy to adulthood.
